For my final exam in Communication Theory and Practice, I have decided to research five jobs in the communications field. I will then narrow it down to the one that I want the most and write a cover letter to the company/organization explaining why I am perfect for the position. So I found one job and four internships (a lot of the jobs I found required years of experience before applying – I put one of them on anyway). Also after each listing, there is a brief description of what attracts me to the position. Finally, I have posted my resume and cover letter on Scribd. Without further ado here is my final:

COMMUNICATIONS AND SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER at INDEPENDENT SECTOR: provides fresh and relevant content for the Independent Sector website, Facebook page, Twitter accounts, bloggers, and other relevant  social media outlets.

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING INTERNSHIP at Unknown Company: passionate about social media and superior organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNSHIP at FOOD AND WATER WATCH: Interest in how social media and traditional media work and what is newsworthy. Interest in how media and communications strategies advance a public interest agenda.

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNSHIP at YOUTH SERVICE AMERICA: Founded in 1986, YSA supports a global culture of engaged youth committed to a lifetime of service, learning, leadership, and achievement. Intern will help with community building by mobilizing and engaging with fans, followers, subscribers on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, MySpace.

BADASS INTERN at MEAL TICKET: Team Meal Ticket is in need of a smart, quick, dedicated 21+ food geek in possession of a digital camera, an obsessive attention to detail and a lust to know everything there is to know about the ever-expanding Philadelphia food scene. You will get a chance to create your own regular feature for this blog, as well as interview Philly’s most interesting chefs, bartenders, restaurateurs, brewers and food artisans.

When it came down to decision time, I was torn between the last two at Youth Service America and Meal Ticket. However, in looking at my resume and my qualifications and interests I have decided to apply for the Youth Service America internship. With my community building skills and interest in social media, I would be much more qualified for this position. Although the Meal Ticket internship is “badass” (no pun intended), I will go for YSA.
